This map displays standard definition radar data from radar towers located across the US. You can see areas of precipitation well with this data and we have an archive that goes back to 2004 so you can see where precipitation was falling at a given time years ago. Use the legend below the image to figure out how intense precipitation is falling at a given time or place. Occasionally, the radar will also pick up on mountains or wind farms which will appear as rain even on a clear day. If you see an area of “rain” that doesn’t move at all when you animate the data, it may be a false return.
