Europe HD (ICON-EU)(5 days)
This product displays output from the European regional model (ICON-EU). Regional models produce forecasts for a specific region, in this case for Europe. One advantage to regional models is that they can run at a much higher resolution than global models enabling them to see features such as mountains, valleys, and small bodies of water that would be too small for a lower resolution model to see. Due to the higher resolution of regional models, they can only be calculated for certain areas and often don’t go as far out in time as global models. In this case, the Europe HD model runs 5 days out into the future.
In addition to the main model run, we also offer individual “ensemble member” forecasts for the most crucial parameters. These ensemble members are created by making slight tweaks to the initial conditions of the model, then running it over and over again with those slight tweaks. This process creates a range of possible outcomes that can be analyzed to get valuable insights about the probability of various forecast solutions.
